From Rescue to Family

Updated: Mar 27

As new members of the Cold Spring community, weโ€™d like introduce ourselves by

sharing our own rescue dog story.

We decided to adopt a dog from a shelter in Connecticut 18 years ago. Hayes was a

black lab mix rescued from Tennessee. They shared that he had been treated badly

there and was very timid around people. They carried out this shy puppy, placed him in

our lap and it was a done deal. Since he still required some veterinary care, it would be

two weeks before we could bring him home.

Then came the hard sell. Hayes was rescued with his sister who was in really bad

shape. We could have Hayes, but they really werenโ€™t sure how Holly would do without

him. We decided to meet her and she was brought out by a volunteer, shaking in their

arms and immediately cowered in the corner when they let her down. Hayes stood up,

walked over and sat with her in that corner. What a show!

We told them we would of course take Holly if she was still there in 2 weeks.

She was, and we became owners of two rescue dogs.

When we took them for their first veterinary visit as their new owners and shared the

story, the vet laughed and told us there was no chance they were brother and sister.

You can obviously see from the picture that Holly is a border collie and Hayes is a black

lab.

It took Holly a couple years to fully overcome her fear of people, but she had a great life

of over 14 years. Hayes was part of our family for 3 more years after she passed before

he passed away at 17 ยฝ in December.

Something else to know about us? We really donโ€™t do well with free time on our handsโ€ฆ
